[Archive/Riffs] Beer Factory, A.K.A. InnerStrengthCheck is Off to Froth!
Note: Originally posted in November 2024, on our sadly now-defunct website which died unexpectedly NYE 2024 (sniff). Be sure to check out the Parts 1 and 2 of the Froth and Fury 20204 festival review by myself and Hamza, inclusive of two huge articles stacked with some great photography AND a two-in-one narrated audio version on our podcast, with links for all versions.
Note that we also have a few FNF 2024 pre-gig interviews incoming, as well as an all-in-one ‘Omnibus’ post as well!
The pre-Froth articles will be added in as they occurred on the order of posting, to reduce confusion for new readers.
Plenty more music and gig related material to come, too. Old and new.
Peace, Love and Grindcore xoxo - Brady.
If you're wondering whether we've gone truly insane with the post title, well.... okay, yeah. You're not far off the mark to be honest.
Given it's a Tuesday and we're all about #technicaltuesdays over here at ISC, I thought it interesting to weave in a bit of a we're-getting-stoked primer for Froth and Fury Festival 2024 with some FF-worship.
Likewise, I felt it best to spruik ahead of time this year, thus saving the battle-report data for the aftermath review. I/we plan on getting this out early next week, but we encourage straight-up attendance with your mates FnFF is down to the last remaining tickets (<1K)!
For those unable to make the sojourn, fear (factory, chortle) not.
Myself and co-contributor Mal Montisanti are gearing up big-time in preparations to provide hella coverage for what's slated to be one of the biggest and loudest in the South Australian capital on Saturday!
For a little sample-platter of what to expect from this years' Froth and Fury Fest, check out the aftermath of last year's event:
After-Movie courtesy of the official Froth and Fury YouTube Channel. Credit to Kaleidoscope Productions et al. for encapsulating a day's worth of mayhem in 3-and-a-half splendorous minutes!
Speaking of credit where it's due - the festival comes courtesy of the Soul of this New(ish) Machine, Jason North.
(I had to make an excuse to sneak in at least *something* off one of my favourite industrial death metal albums of all time).
Anyone who's been plugged into the Australian metal scene for a hot minute will very likely have heard of Truth Corroded, death-thrash stalwarts of the SA/Australian metal scene.
Ever the frontman, vocalist 'Northy' has gone hard-out historically on the musician front and, more recently, taking on helmsman roles at Heavy S.A. Fest and New Dead Promotions (responsible for The New Dead Festival of acclaimed festivals past, and Froth and Fury).
As an example and in case you missed it, check out this killer lineup that was on offer for Heavy S.A. Fest 2024. Solid and brutal smorgasbord was on offer right there.
The main-man's also been responsible for an iconic local festival in the form of The New Dead Metalfest, each of which magnetised a number of metallic luminaries from Australia and abroad.
Don't believe me? Check out InnerStrengthCheck's extensive coverage of the 2022 New Dead Metalfest, and Part 1/ Part 2 of our coverage last year's New Dead Metalfest, respectively. You can do so right here on the blog via the ‘Gig Reviews’ Category.
Alas, it appears TND lies dormant for now. There's hope amongst the metal community in Australia that, like the phylactery disturbed in a dark-fantasy tomb, we see this shining black light disturbed from slumber again in future.
At the end of the day, this all conjecture and contextualising. Let's move forward into the amber-coloured carbonated light of our festival topic at hand!
FROTH AND TECH- OOPS, FURY! FURY!
Acknowledgement of Country:
I'd like to pay my respects to the Traditional Owners of the lands on which FNF will be located. Not just the venue, but a region extending from Cape Jervis to the south of Adelaide to Crystal Brook to the north, and from the Mount Lofty Ranges to the coast of Gulf Saint Vincent.
Kaurna Meyunna Yerta, or ‘Kaurna Country’ is where prospective attendees will find themselves on the day.
In particular, I'd like to pay respects on behalf of myself, audience, crew and artists present prior/during/afterwards to the Kaurna Meyenna. Both to the Meyunna as a whole, but also Elders and leaders past, present and emerging.
Those outside South Australian borders (including myself) may not be aware that the Kaurna, as a First Nation, hold formally recognised ownership/stewardship of the Adelaide Plains metropolitan region. This makes Adelaide the first State to have enshrined First Nations ownership in a capital city's metropolitan districts. The right to Title was guaranteed by the judiciary after an 18-year effort, no small feat.
Please respect the grounds on the day, respect each other, and be mindful to take pause to acknowledge these aren't just commercial lands but also a place of spiritual and cultural significance.
TO THE CREW:
I just want to pay respects to the grit and fortitude involved both on the marathon-length work that has preceded and will be involved on the day. It's a long one even for those joining in celebration - now put frantic and time-sensitive work duties on top of that. Mega effort.
It's not easy to recoup massively rising costs in insurance, staffing, logistics, fuel, transport, merchandise etc. I'm aware ticket prices are reflecting the inflating costs of well, just about everything, on the audience end. Gripes about rising prices of everything from ticket sales to vendors and merch are basically a gig-aficionado's 'how about that weather, huh?' talking-point.
However, acknowledging that - if we don't show our collective support for the industry through tough times we also run the risk of our beloved music festivals and gigs becoming.....
Obsolete.
Sorry-not-sorry, had to do it. Again.
I'd like to take the opportunity in advance in thanking the small army of techs, audio engineers, stage-crew, medical staff, lighting/stage techs, drivers, bartenders (hoo boy) and the legion of hard workers who'll be in attendance.
It also goes without saying to reiterate the relentless work-ethic of Northy and crew in pulling all this together!
One could even say the buzz of activity by those handling Froth on the day will be akin to an army of.....
Drones.
(Underrated track from an absolutely stellar mid-00's FF album).
Let's also acknowledge that both staff and patrons have diverse lived experiences, too. That encompasses sensory needs, communication styles, health conditions and other factors that might introduce some moments where it's easy to get impatient or otherwise flustered.
Please factor this into your awareness on the day.
Slow it down, don't get too aggro if you're 25 seconds late to a set. We're all out here to have fun and engage as a music-loving collective.
Let's keep the.... Aggression Continuuum, on the lower end of the scale, eh?
Stow that energy and put it towards enjoying the day! There's plenty on offer, with vendors ranging from a variety of food/drink providers to merch, records, tattoos, etc. There's even goddamn wrestling and armoured combat!
Yeah, you heard that right.
