ISC BLOG/PODCAST UPDATE (MUSIC) - 14th Jan 2025
For this week’s #MusicMonday, outside of some updates From The Legion (see below for an explainer on that segment. Hello Legionnaires!) I’ll be focusing more on providing internal updates rather than hoovering up news pieces and discussing other industry-wide happenings.
Not ideal, but neither is losing your entire website with hours to go in 2024. Nevertheless, as the meme sayeth - the horrors persist, but so do I.
I’ll start by flagging some recent additions to the blog that are of note:
Our first Heavy News (category link) articles both for the new year, and the new website, are in! NEW STUFF. FINALLY. GOD, Specifically, news related to power metal band Dynazty, Arkansas-based death metal act Open Kasket, and doom-trio The Cimmerian.
Podcast (category link) episodes are slowly, painfully but surely being re-tagged, re-categorised, links updated etc. Unfortunately, Big Tech’s promissory wooing about integrations, cross-posting and integration has been an abject failure. Please be patient as I re-enter new links to your bands’ podcast episodes re: reviews, interviews etc.
Here’s an update of all the specific remaining content to be unearthed and exhumed from the site host back-end of our otherwise dead-as-shit prior website.
Wait - did someone say Exhumed?
Podcast Episodes - Recently Added To Blog (Podcast Category - click link here):
#19 - Afterbirth’s In But Not Of LP,
#15 - Interview with Niklas Sandlin of Katatonia,
#14 - Interview with James ‘Human Furnace’ Bulloch of Ringworm,
#13 - Interview with Bjorn ‘Speed’ Strid of Soilwork.
Pending (Available via Podcast Links - refer to top-right/home page):
#21 - Interview with Kyle Thomas of Exhorder,
#22 - Interview with Andrew Craighan of My Dying Bride,
#23 - Interview with Matt Pike and Coady Willis of High on Fire,
#24 - Interview with Sereena Cherry of Svalbard,
#25 - Interview with Tony Forresta of Municipal Waste,
#26 - Interview with Reese of Diploid,
#28 - Froth and Fury Festival (Full Review - Blog Parts 1 & 2),
#32 - Reviews - Feral’s To Usurp The Throne/ RVVKVS’ Antithesis of Prosperity LP’s.
I have so many future episodes not yet recorded lined up, based just off our slew incoming additional and past blog reviews, that I’m going to just save that for another update.
ISC Blog Articles (Archived):
I’d add in all the relevant links for blog content, but there’s honestly just too many.
And there are SO many more to come.
Please refer to the drop-down menu top-right of your screen and select ‘ISC Blog’.
I can let you know some of the many pieces reuploaded/reformatted recently, though:
Our 2022 interview with Brisbane (now Berlin) based thrashers Idle Ruin,
An interview with Mark Palfreyman of Melbourne prog-death kings Alarum,
A gargantuan live review of both the 2022 and 2023 New Dead Fests in Adelaide (SA),
A review of a local gig headlined by rural VIC stalwarts Nicolas Cage Fighter,
A written review of Cannibal Corpse’s Unimagined Violence LP,
An interview with solo death-doomster Aaron Osborne of AGLO (Melbourne, VIC) fame,
….and many many many more!
OTHER STUFF (SOCIALS, ETC):
Speaking of social media - I’m currently also doing four years worth of auditing posts (780 deleted this week! Off to the gulag). Due to aforementioned issues, I’m going to do two massive posts: one, with every single guest, interviewee and related stakeholder for all archived episodes, and another for separate Riffs (our catch-all for any non-podcast/briefer articles and essays etc). Those will be huge and pretty much break Meta’s tagging limits but hey - blame our prior host.
Covers have slowed down. There’s a reason for that. More on that later.
Other stuff? Stuff this, it’s time for a pivot to From The Legion!
From The Legion - Jan 15th, 2025.
Musolegion have been busy, busy, bizz-ay this week! That, and I’m literally getting hand-cramps from all the clicking and typing, so I’ll shut up and let this wonderful community speak for themselves. (links below, joiiiiin-uuuuus).
Stats for nerds from the Facebook Group (we’re all nerds. admit it, legionnaires):
Posts are on the up-tick. Yes… that’s it. Give that graph a positive trend. Positively skew that shit, community!
Comments were popular around Christmas, but y’all be shy in the New Year. Let’s make this a graph that’d worry a cardiologist without context. To quote the McPoyles - bump it!
PSST… not going to post names for confidentiality, but I have to let the Legion know something a tad…. unacceptable.
Us admins hold all the top-ranking posts for the past 28 days!
AS FEAR FACTORY SAID - ARISE ABOVE OPPRESSION. COMMENCE POSTING FOR THE LEGION-PROLETERIAT. BEAT US AT OUR OWN GAME. GET TO POSTING, COMRADES!
SPEAKING OF POSTS - FAM HAVE BEEN BUSY. EXAMPLES:
A ‘Musolegion Recommends’ post focused on Central Asian bands. Some interesting reccs in this one! (LINK).
The Poland version of ‘Musolegion Recommends’ absolutely smashed it. Huge response from the community! Much love, y’all <3 (LINK)
Since it previously was posted to our dead-and-buried website - the massive input from everyone for their Album/s of The Year for 2024 absolutely warrants reposting! (LINK).
Sammy’s great review of Haunter’s Discarnate LP suffered a similar fate to the AOTY post above, but also warrants reposting. (LINK)
Oh, fun tip - the guys have plenty of reviews and other pieces in store.
So if my manic, unhinged level of perma-posting does not compete with your smartphone-bruised dopamine demands in 2025 - keep track with the Legion via the website. In fact, do it anyway. Go. Now. GO.
